【DMMオンライン英会話の教材 写真描写】～英語力を高めるための教材をご紹介～

以前、私が毎日英会話レッスンを受けている ”DMMオンライン英会話” についていくつか記事にしてご紹介しました。
私はDMM英会話を始めて１０か月なのですが、使い続けると便利な機能や良い教材の発見があります。
DMM英会話の豊富な教材の中から今回は ”Describing pictures” 「写真描写」をご紹介したいと思います。
1. DMM英会話の写真描写
DMM英会話の写真描写は初級、中級、上級に分かれています。
初級は５０レッスン、中級は７０レッスン、上級は１０レッスンと、豊富なレッスンを受けることができます。
１つのレッスンにつき、３つの写真を描写することができ、それぞれの写真の下にはその写真に関連する ”Helpful vocabulary”（単語） があります。
レッスンの中の写真をひとつずつ描写し、先生に向けて、写真の中に何が見えるかを説明します。
2. 写真描写で鍛えられること
写真描写のレッスンは写真の中の風景、人、食べ物、感情、状況などを英語で先生に説明するので、英語の表現力を鍛えることができます。
実際にやってみると、「この感情は英語でなんて言うんだろう」「この食べ物は英語でどう表現すればいいんだろう」という疑問が浮いてきます。
そこで辞書などで調べたり、「DMM英会話なんてuKnow?」で質問してみたりすると、新しい英単語や英語表現を身に付けることができます。

また、写真描写は実際に外国人と会ってどっかに出かけたり、街を歩いている時にも役立ちます。
よくよく考えてみると、私たちは知らず識らずのうちに毎日のように自分の周りのものを描写していることに気づきます。
「このケーキ美味しそう！中にフルーツが詰まってて、上にはイチゴが乗ってる！」
「あの男の子めっちゃニコニコして楽しそうにして遊んでる」
など、自分が見ているものを相手に伝えることが多いです。
これはつまり、外国人といる時も自分の周りのものを描写することが多くなるということなので、その練習をDMM英会話の写真描写ではできるということです。
3. 写真描写実践 どんな感じにやるのか
では、実際どのように写真描写をするのかを説明したいと思います。
今回用意した写真はDMM英会話の教材のものではなく、著者自らが用意し、文章も著者が作りました。

this is a picture of a vast field of crops. The sky is clear, it's a pleasant day.
The old woman in white is hoeing by herself.
In front of her, colorful crops are making a stripped pattern in the field.
And behind the field, there is a gazebo surrounded by trees. That might be the farmer’s resting place.
Picture 2
The picture shows urban scene from a western country.
People on the left sidewalk are waiting for the streetcar, behind them is an off-white building with arched windows. Since the street car has its headlights on, this picture may have been taken in the evening. I can also see passersby from the other side of the road.
Overhead wirings for the streetcars are connected between the buildings.
Picture 3
This is a picture of a delicious looking meal. Food like fried battered leafy vegetables are served on a large banana leaf on the wooden table. This dish could be originated from tropical places like Indonesia or the Philippines.
On the far left side, some seaweed salad is served over the purple petals, and on the opposite side, there is a food that looks like pork trotter garnished with hibiscus.
Aside from the main dish, a steamed rice cake wrapped in a bamboo leaf is also placed at the bottom part of the picture. We can also see the upside down cup at the upper right corner of the picture.
このような感じで写真描写を行います。
例文を見てみると、わからない単語や表現があったと思います。
これを自分で調べて、アウトプットして、復習すればかなり英会話力が向上します。
